Rainbow Time
When the afternoon sun catches the prisms in the window, it throws rainbows across the floor, the walls, the ceiling.
At my house I call it Rainbow Time.
It takes several prisms hung together to set a whole room ablaze with color like this.
I lie down on the floor in the middle of it and embrace it. Jambi climbs onto my chest. Neither of us is in any hurry to move.
Jambi Stardust
From down here I tip the camera up and watch him watch the light.
He tilts his head back and follows the rainbows as they drift across the ceiling. Stardust, if you are twelve years old and easily delighted.
He does not know it is refraction. I know only that he watches, he glows, and he stays.
The treasures of a life.
I still have Jambi's baby teeth. His first collar, the tiny one he wore home.
I am not the only one who keeps these things. The first tag. A lock of fur. The birthday party photos. The ordinary Tuesdays that turned out to be everything.
These are the treasures of a life shared, and someday they will deserve a beautiful place to be kept together.
